After several weeks lay off due to the weather the Under 14s headed across to Sutton Coldfield for a North Mid Plate fixture. The home side were struggling for numbers and borrowed a spare Newport player, which quickly turned in to 2 players when they lost another through injury.

 

Newport dominated from the outset and, although the scrum was not quite as in control as we've come to expect, had the better of the play in every area. With tries coming from the forwards and the backs, Newport were leading at the interval 33-0.

 

With a further injury for the home side, and their heads dropping a little, Newport continued to dominate and the match was brought to a close early at 50-0.

 

Newport's first half performance was a good all-round display with sensible running and support, good passing, good tackling and good communication (didn't think I'd be saying that!)

 

However, with the result in the bag, the second half saw an ourburst of "white line fever" with too many individuals and not enough team play. The ball was carried just too far on several occasions and, whilst we got away with it this time, a better side would have exploited our indiscipline.

 

Overall good effort from everyone and a great result.
