Under 13s vs Wolverhampton - 12th October 2008

Sunday saw the Under 13s travel to Wolverhampton for their first away fixture of the season. The home side were well organised and had a size & weight advantage which they put to good use with Newport struggling to secure possession at the set pieces. However, despite being "out gunned" the whole team showed tremendous determination and put in some excellent defensive work from 1 to 15.

The final scoreline (about 52-0) didn't reflect the way in which the match was contested nor some of the superb tackling at half-back, full-back or at centre to contain a Wolverhampton side that enjoyed the lion's share of the ball. In addition to their genetic advantages, our hosts key differentiator was their ability to keep the ball alive - showing excellent off-loading skills meaning that at times Newport ran out of tacklers.

Despite the scoreline the Newport lads should be proud of their efforts - they faced a very good, well-organised, phyically bigger side who were always going to win - but under difficult circumstances they kept battling to the final whistle. Well Done.
