Studs
The studs on players boots are very important, if they are sharp or used against the laws of the game they can cause serious injury.
Referees should always check players studs before the start of each match, if they deem that the studs are unsafe then they can ask the player to change boots or prevent them from playing.
Football boots, worn by many players, come supplied with metal tipped studs, these are illegal.
Rugby studs are completely metal and should be marked with the Kite Mark, BS 6366 1983.
Alternatively boots with moulded rubber studs or blades can be worn, although no sharp edges should be present. The referee has the final decision about what is acceptable.
